Jewelry Care
We only use the best quality materials for our jewelry. This means all our pieces are made with 14kt gold filled materials and semi precious gemstones and pearls. We source our gold filled materials from USA made sources to ensure the highest quality standards are met when it comes to gold filled. As the owner and designer, I use the same quality materials for my own personal pieces.
How to Properly Care for Your Vida Jewelry Pieces
As much as you may love our pieces, it's a good practice to occasionally take them off, especially when it comes to bathing, swimming, or heavy sweating- aka the gym. Gold filled materials by USA law have 5% actual gold bonded to them so they are the next best thing to actual gold. However, sweat, chlorine, and other chemicals from perfumes or lotions can weaken or damage stones and metal. If you plan on heading to the beach, pool, or gym, it is best to leave your jewelry at home. It is also a good practice to take it off when going to bed since some of us can be violent sleepers and the tossing and turning can break or weaken our pieces.
When in doubt keep the 4 S's in mind as to when to take off your jewelry: swim, sweat, sleep, shower.
How to Store Your Jewelry
Although you may have a cute place out in the open to display your jewelry for all to see, it is not the best practice to keep your jewelry looking shiny and new. The air and humidity can speed up the tarnishing process for sterling silver. Some of our sterling silver is anti-tarnish but others are not, so it may tarnish faster.
It is best to store all your jewelry in an anti-tarnish jewelry box, or in individual bags to keep the air out. This will ensure your jewelry looks its best and lasts for years to come.
Cleaning Your Jewelry
It is good practice to clean your jewelry every few months. It can be as simple as using a jewelry cloth to polish anything with gold filled chain. Or I love to use a gentle cleaner such as Caribbean Gem Jewelry Solution every month or two.
Please note, Ethiopian opals are water absorbent and should not be cleaned using any solution.
